We’ve been trawling through search engines, newspapers, magazine, social media sites etc to look for pages which can be and are currently inspiring people of all ages to eat healthily; it’s proven to prolong our lives, keep us fit and provide us with the best life we all want, which means we should all want to do it, right?… so why aren’t we??
It’s a problem which is prominent in countries such as the USA and China, but the list which depicts which countries contribute to holding 671 million obese people is probably longer than three Big Mac meals in a row. Enough said.
Firstly, that’s a disgusting figure. We’re a foodie website, where we post pictures and reviews of delicious food which has been cooked within our beautiful county and with our home-grown fresh produce . It’s not something we want to talk about but there are probably people who don’t want to read this sort of article but we think it must be brought to people’s attention because it will inevitably continue to worsen.
The ability to get into a car now and drive to McDonalds to pick up a fast food meal would involve very little effort. So many people are doing this on a daily basis to satisfy their fast food addiction, fill a small gap, for a family meal or even because the are bored! In moderation, yes, it’s ok to do this – But several times a week is not a good. Fuelling your body this way can potentially be fatal – Each year in the U.K over 74,000 people die due to coronary heart disease (CHD) – Directly relating to an unhealthy lifestyle – Probably caused by poor eating habits and fast food, as well as habits such as smoking, drinking and the use of substances.
We are not experts on this, but just like the rest of us, we watch TV documentaries and research information online to make others aware of what damage we are doing to our bodies.
We would like to know why the Government are allowing fast-food chains to open until all hours of the morning? It’s an ongoing Worldwide epidemic which surely than 99.9% of the population are aware of yet nobody ‘in power’ seems to be have any effect on this subject and nothing ever seems to change.
We feel they need to clamp down hard and enforce stricter rules which only allows this type of food to be sold in moderation or even much smaller quantities. Why are supermarkets, for example, allowed to place chocolate bars, crisps, alcohol etc on BOGOF offers when they know how it is damaging our lives? Where is the logic in this? Yes, it will increase their turnover / revenue / profits etc, but they are literally killing the nation!
Some people will probably be reading this and thinking that they are fit and healthy and don’t need to worry, but what about the people who are morbidly obese and need serious help? Is it wrong that big supermarket chains are literally luring these types of people into their shops and enticing them to buy more than they need?
We were shopping for food the other day and we were purchasing some chicken thighs. I’d asked for 3 (£0.70 each – Totalling £2.10) when the assistant turned to me as said “Would you like 4 for £2” – She was immediately hit (not literally) with a yes and snapped up that deal – But it got us thinking, yes, that deal was only for chicken, but it happens throughout the store and a lot of the products (as we’ve mentioned above) are filled with unnecessary fat and sugar or sometimes both! – Why are supermarkets doing this? Competition? Probably the most likely reason but it’s definitely damaging some peoples’ lives.
It’s something we are going to start promoting and sticking with because healthy living is the way forward for all of us – People can change and they should do – Who doesn’t want to live until they are 120 years of age and still be alive and kicking right up until their last day?!
This ties in nicely with our next blog post…
